Customs notice CN 14-005 Harmonized System Codes for Export Declarations
Dilas as a Canadian Customs broker deems it necessary to attract attention to the industry members to the below Customs notice regarding the export reporting of the correct HS codes.
1. This notice is reminding exporters (or Customs broker on Exporter’s behalf) that they must correctly report the Harmonized System (HS) Code at the time when they fill out an export declaration. Customs Act, Sub-Section 95(4) indicates: “If goods are required to be reported in writing, they shall be reported in the prescribed form containing the prescribed information or in such form containing such information as is satisfactory to the Minister.”
2. As per the Reporting of Exported Goods Regulations, exporters of restricted goods are mandated to:
(a) Report the exportation as referred to in Section 3 or 4 of the Regulations;
(b) Provide evidence that the exportation of the goods complies with the Act of Parliament under which the exportation of the goods is restricted.
3. To help exporters and/or Customs brokers with the correct classification for the Canadian Export HS codes, information may be obtained from Statistics Canada by:
(a) Reviewing the 2014 Canadian Export Classification catalogue;
(b) Contacting Statistics Canada.
